The<\/span> \u201cQuantum Technology Action Plan\u201d <\/span>(\u201c<\/span>H<\/span>andlungskonzept<\/span> Q<\/span>uantentechnologien<\/span>\u201d<\/span>) <\/span>by the <\/span>German government <\/span>was a crucial step in <\/span>the creation of<\/span> a national quantum ecosystem. Thanks to funding of around three billion euros, important research projects were launched, and start-ups were supported. <\/span>With the<\/span> funding <\/span>c<\/span>oming to an <\/span>end<\/span> in 2025, Germany <\/span>h<\/span>as to<\/span> renew its commitment to this critical future<\/span>-oriented<\/span> technology.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

As the Quantum Technology & Application Consortium (QUTAC), a coalition of fourteen of Germany’s and Europe’s largest companies, we advocate a strategy for quantum technologies adapted to current challenges as an essential element of a comprehensive digital strategy. It is necessary to <\/span>establish<\/span> strategic coordination across all levels, which should be <\/span>reali<\/span>s<\/span>ed<\/span> by a coordinating <\/span>institution<\/span> in Germany that follows an integrated approach <\/span>and\u00a0 acts<\/span> in the collective European interest.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, we explicitly advocate for long-term follow-up funding for quantum technologies. QUTAC conducts application-oriented research and is fully financed through private funds. However, we believe that state support for the entire quantum ecosystem, including university and industrial research as well as start-ups, is essential to secure long-term competitiveness.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this paper, we outline eight key measures to strengthen our national quantum ecosystem. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The development of commercially relevant quantum technology solutions will play a decisive role in the sovereignty and economic competitiveness of Germany and Europe. <\/span>Appropriate<\/span>, targeted state coordination and support are indispensable <\/span>to achieve this<\/span>. As Germany’s leading quantum technology consortium, we will continue to <\/span>accompany<\/span> and <\/span>help <\/span>shap<\/span>ing<\/span> this political process.<\/span><\/p>\n
