How can businesses strategically build their quantum readiness? The OECD provides key insights in a new paper.

The latest OECD – OCDE Digital Economy Paper, “Building Business Readiness for Quantum Computing”, systematically examines how companies can prepare for the commercial use of quantum computing, highlighting common barriers that stand in the way. The study is based on interviews with 16 public and private organizations across 10 countries, including QUTAC.

The four main barriers identified — insufficient technological maturity, limited awareness of business implications, costs of accessing quantum computing resources, and workforce shortages — are challenges QUTAC tackles in its daily work as a consortium of 14 leading industrial companies.

To address these barriers, the study emphasizes the importance of collaborative approaches, such as industrial consortia, networking platforms, and joint research. We are therefore pleased to see our model recognised as a concrete mechanism to build quantum readiness.

At QUTAC, we jointly research quantum algorithms and industrial use cases, publish our results for others’ benefit, and develop tools such as the QC-Monitor to track the German ecosystem.

We strive to actively shape quantum technologies towards industrial applicability, through both science and policy, welcoming dialogue on this topic with policymakers, companies, and all other interested parties.
